Make every rule clear.

A practical guide to postcode matching, saving changes and checking delivery availability.

  1. Start with the areas you deliver to.
Enter a district such as L15, a sector such as L15 1, or a full postcode such as L15 1AA. Give each rule a price or choose to block delivery.
  2. Choose what happens elsewhere.
Select a default price or block unmatched postcodes. Blocking is useful when you deliver only inside a defined area.
  3. Test several addresses.
Check one full-postcode exception, one sector match, a district match and an address outside your area. The tester explains which rule applies.
  4. Save a draft while you work.
Save draft stores your edits. Your published rules remain in use until you choose Review and publish.
  5. Review and publish.
Review the summary and any compatibility messages. Publish only when the addresses and prices are right. Test a real checkout after publishing or changing Shopify shipping settings.
  6. Add the storefront checker.
Open the theme editor from the app and add the Postcode checker block to a supported section. Save the theme and test it on mobile as well as desktop.

Common questions

Which rule takes priority?

A full postcode wins over a sector, and a sector wins over a district. If no rule matches, your unmatched-postcode setting applies. A more specific rule can allow or block an address inside a wider area.

Are L1 and L15 different?

Yes. PostcodePilot understands the structure of UK postcodes rather than simply matching the first letters. L1 5AA belongs to L1, not L15.

Can I use lowercase or leave out the space?

Full postcodes are normalised before matching. For rule entry, use the standard spacing shown in the examples so the district, sector and full postcode are easy to distinguish.

Can I show my own rejection message?

You can choose the message displayed by the storefront postcode checker. Shopify controls the checkout experience, so the checker message does not replace every Shopify checkout notice.

Does saving a draft affect customers?

No. Customers use the published settings. Review and publish is the step that makes your changes active.

Will postcode rules prove that an address exists?

No. The app checks postcode format and your delivery rules. It is not an address-verification service or a guarantee that an address is deliverable.

How do I cancel?

Use Shopify’s subscription management or uninstall the app in Shopify. Turning off delivery rules is separate from cancelling the subscription. Check your Shopify billing screen for the effective cancellation date and any charge already incurred.
